Health Minister praises medical workers for saving pregnant woman

Vietnam’s Health Minister sent a letter praising the team of medical workers of Maternity Hospital and Medicine University in the northern province of Thai Binh, for performing a successful operation that saved the life of a pregnant woman at her home.

The Health Minister also asked the Medicine University and the provincial Department of Health to honor and give certificates of merit to the team for their dedication in setting a good example in medical ethics for the whole country.

The health authority in the province should launch a movement to follow the good example of their service.

Before, on December 4, a 40-year-old pregnant woman from Duy Nhat Commune in Vu Thu District of Thai Binh Province suffered an ectopic pregnancy--a complication in pregnancy in which the embryo moves outside the uterine cavity--and was bleeding heavily because the embryo cavity broke open.

She was so weak that she was unable to be carried to a medical clinic in the district.

Soon after receiving information of the urgency of this case, a team of five medical workers led by Dr. Le Hai Duong arrived at her home. The team carried out a surgery and gave blood transfusion for two hours.

The woman then passed the critical stage and was taken to the Maternity Hospital for further treatment. She was still under recuperation on December 6.
