Health authority rejects rumor in HIV-contaminated eggs

Hoang Dinh Canh, deputy head of the Ministry of Health’s Department for HIV/AIDS Prevention, yesterday rejected a rumor surfacing in the social media that Chinese chicken eggs sold in Vietnam have been injected with blood contaminated with Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV).

Mr. Canh said that it is groundless rumor; accordingly, he advised customers not to be shocked by the news.

He added that eggs could not be contaminated with HIV because the virus could not exist outside the human body.

Moreover, HIV virus will die when eggs are boiled.
