18 cities and provinces out of 21 in the South Vietnam have eliminated leprosy but Ho Chi Minh City which is the economic hub of the country has not abolished the disease yet because a lot of immigrants have flocked to the city to live, work and find out for an opportunity.

According to a plan set by the city People’s Committee, till the end of 2015, the city must eradicate the disease; for instance, the rate of circulation of the disease must be below 0.2 over 10,000 populations and the rate new patients must be under 1 over 100,000 residents and the rate of disabled patients must be below 15 percent.

To reach the goals, in addition to increasing treatment and detection of leprosy patients, local governments in districts must enhance information and healthcare education to residents, especially knowledge of the disease and maintain prevention networks.
