HCMC conducts tenth liver transplant for kids

Surgeons of the Children Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City succeeded in the liver transplant for a kid suffering cirrhosis after ten hours yesterday.

This is the tenth liver transplant carried out in the hospital. The recipient, 13 month old Nguyen Vo Tri Hao received a portion of liver from his father, Nguyen Thanh Hiep, 38.

Both father and son are being treated by doctors at the hospital's  the intensive care unit after the surgery, said Dr. Pham Ngoc Thach, deputy head of the hospital.

Surgeons had cut 230gr liver of the father to transplant for his son to replace the section of rotten liver.

Medical workers will keep an eye on the kid to treat the rejection and increased risk of infection.
