H5N6 strikes Vietnam’s 2,000 poultry

According to the province Department of Husbandry and Animal Health, the event began on July 27, with the virus killing mass poultry in two days in breeder Nguyen Thanh Canh in Dong Binh village.
Test results later confirmed that 2,000 chickens and ducks in the farm died of influenza A (H5N6) virus.
Vice Head of the Department of Husbandry and Animal Health Nguyen Van Lam said after receiving the test result, authorities culled the surviving chicken to curb its spread. Investigations are underway into the source of the outbreaks.
Cleaning and disinfection practices were done in the farm and neighborhood within the radius of five kilometers including seven communes to curb transmission. Simultaneously, vets gave vaccination on poultry and wrote the number of dead poultry to subsidize farmers.
