National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung asked for the UN's further support to help Viet Nam eliminate AIDS by 2030 while receiving Michel Sidibe, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), in Ha Noi on Saturday.
The NA Chairman praised UNAIDS's efforts to build HIV/AIDS prevention strategies at a global level, and expressed his gratitude for its assistance to Viet Nam's fight against the disease.
When the Law on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Combat was put in place, an important legal foundation was created, helping ensure people's equal access to social welfare, as well as HIV/AIDS preventive services and treatment, he stated.
He went on to say that the country was utilising all available resources to speed up its combat against HIV/AIDS and support people with HIV/AIDS.
Michel Sidibe applauded Viet Nam for being the first to announce the implementation of the 90-90-90 target. This includes increasing the proportion of people living with HIV who know their diagnosis to 90 per cent, increasing the proportion of people living with HIV to 90 per cent, and increasing the proportion of people on HIV treatment who have an undetectable viral load to 90 per cent.
He expressed his belief that with the adopted Law on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Combat, Viet Nam would succeed in this fight.
