First surrogate pregnancy in Vietnam gives birth by C section

Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Viet Tien directly performed the operation.

The surrogate pregnant woman is from the northern province of Ha Nam.

Three hospitals which the Ministry of Health allowed to carry out the surrogate pregnancy include the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Hanoi, the Hue Central Hospital in the central city of Hue, and Tu Du Obstetrics Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.

The National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology has so far received 60 applications for surrogate pregnancy; 50 of them have been accepted while Tu Du Hospital has accepted 19 cases out of 33 approved application document.

Under the new regulation, surrogacy is allowed when the woman who has found another woman to act as a surrogate mother has no uterus or deformed uterus that is unable to bear a fetus, or even her uterus cut off.
