First case of Zika virus in Ba Ria-Vung Tau

The Department of Health in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province said that a person is positive for Zika virus, the first case in the province. The patient is a 19 year old man in District Tan Thanh’s Commune Phu My. He was taken to the District Medical center on October 30 and later transferred to the Tropical Disease Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City with symptoms of high fever, and muscle pain.

Test results showed that he was positive for the virus.

The patient said before he was ill, he went to Ho Chi Minh City to visit his friend.

Hearing the case, the province health authority soon opened the investigation as well as implemented preventive measures to curb transmission. Medical workers sprayed disinfectants his neighboring.

Accordingly, Ba Ria-Vung Tau is the third province in the South East of Vietnam after Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong reported the mosquito-borne disease cases.
