The Tumor Hospital in the central city of Da Nang and AstraZeneca Corporation yesterday introduced new therapy for diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer patients.
The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) inhibited the growth of cancer cells. Doctors will verify whether patients have EGFR or not from which they will have suitable treatment for patients. Inhibitor TKI brings more benefits compared chemotherapy helping patients live longer from one to two years.
Chief representative of AstraZeneca in Vietnam Nicholas Jones said that the corporation will give free tests of EGFR to non-small cell lung cancer patients in the hospital within one year.
The Southeast Asian country has most cases of cancer in the world, especially lung cancer with the rate of 25.2 over 100,000 population. The mortality rate of lung cancer patients is highest amongst various cancers. Non-small cell lung cancer is popular cancer accounting for 80 percent of lung cancers.
