Children Hospital No.1 in Ho Chi Minh City said Monday that the conjoined twins from the Mekong Delta Province of Soc Trang died due to respiratory problems.

The 3.5-kilogram newborn twins died after 10 days of intensive treatment at the hospital. Doctors said the condition of the twins deteriorated after they suffered various complications incurred from bleeding in the digestive system and breathing failure on October 22.

One of their lungs and their joint heart organ failed to respond to treatment. Consequently all efforts made by the doctors to save them proved futile.

The CT scan had revealed that the twins shared the same liver, same bladder and same sex organ but had two gallbladders and two kidneys. Their kidneys were functioning well as they were urinating normally.

Another CT scan was done to decide which heart was pumping blood in their bodies. Though their liver was functioning well and their breathing was normal, the twins suffered from pulmonary artery stenosis.
