Doctors at Cho Ray Hospital on August 15 conducted their second successful liver transplant surgery on a 50-year-old man from Tan Phu District in Ho Chi Minh City.

The 50-year-old man was suffering from cirrhosis and hepatitis at the last stage. He even fell into deep coma on three occasions. The liver donor was his 18-year-old son.

After many tests and consultations, doctors at Cho Ray Hospital and counterparts from the ASAN Medical Center in South Korea decided to conduct a liver transplant on the man.

The entire transplant procedure was conducted by 29 surgeons of Cho Ray Hospital and many physicians of Testing and X-ray Divisions.

Doctors took 12 hours for the transplant surgery. The recipient’s condition is stable and doctors said he will recover soon.

Dr. Nguyen Tan Cuong, former head of Digestive Division of Cho Ray Hospital, said this operation will pave the way for new treatment methods for people with cirrhosis in the last stage.
