A press conference about free surgery for 1,000 children with congenital heart defects was held by the Sponsor Association for Poor People, Kien Giang Province on June 3.
It was announced that some 520 children will receive free heart surgery in 2009 and 2010 by the Sponsor Association for Poor People, Kien Giang Province on June 3.
The remaining children will be operated on after 2010.
The heat surgeries will begin June 4, with 40 children undergoing treatment at the Ho Chi Minh City Heart Hospital, Tam Duc Heart Hospital and the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City.
Surgery expenses will be paid for by the association after raising US$1 million from the sale of the photograph titled "The Sun in mosoleum shines", by Tran Lan, to the Tan Tao Corporation.
