The Tumor Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City announced at an annual seminar on December 1 that number of cancer patients in big cities increased drastically.
Deputy director Pham Xuan Dung said that the surverys carried out in big cities such as Hanoi, HCMC, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang and Can Tho showed that there has been an upward trend in people suffering cancer.
Additionally, as per the hospital’s figure, of 100,000 male, 172 have cancer while the ratio in female is 138.7/ 100,000.
There are five common cancers in male including lung, liver, rectum -transverse colon, stomach and larynx while female suffers breast cancer, cervical, rectum-transverse colon, lung and thyroid gland. Worse, breast and rectum -transverse colon cancers are escalating in both male and female.
As per the Vietnam Cancer Association, Vietnam ranked 49 over 184 nations with highest number of people dying of cancer in the globe. Moreover, the country is facing difficulties in health care. The Southeast Asian country is also one of developing countries with highest rate of cancer. It is forecast that at present and in the future, cancer will become burden for the society.
It is estimated that the country has 125,000 fresh cancer cases annually; over 94,000 people of them died of the disease.
Fresh cancer cases in HCMC increased from 6,800 cases in 2010 to 8,951 cases in 2014. The hospital admits 28,000 patients of cancer from all corners of the country every year.
