Associate Professor, Doctor Vu Ba Quyet, director of the hospital, said the baby was born on January 26 when she was only 26 weeks old, with an incomplete respiratory system.
After several months of intensive care, the baby weighs 2.65kg and can be breast-fed and move. She was discharged from the hospital on June 7.
Preterm births are those that occur before the start of the 37th week of pregnancy. About 160,000 babies are born prematurely in Vietnam each year, according to the Ministry of Health.
Vietnam has been listed among 42 countries with the highest rates of infant mortality, with premature deaths accounting for 25 percent of infant deaths, according to the World Health Organisation.
