Vietnamese teacher to receive Thai Princess awards

Dung was among 11 outstanding teachers from Southeast Asia to receive the awards which is to honor highly dedicated regional teachers whose accomplishments make significant contributions to education and human development and deserve international recognition. Another objective of the awards is to support and promote development of the teaching profession and educational development.

According to the official site of the Princess Maha Chakri Awards, Dung built an education model ‘Lao Cai New School Model’ which is designed around innovation in teaching methodology, flexibility in management, establishment of self-managed council of pupils’ parents.

She introduced interactive classroom model in teaching focusing on life skills development, self-learning activities and learning from experiences. The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training adopted this innovative model and began replicating it to over 3,000 primary schools nationwide. The model has massively contributed to the improvement of teaching quality and Dung has been awarded the Certificate of Merit of the Prime Minister of Vietnam.

This year marks the first time the awards to be presented to outstanding teachers from the 10 ASEAN countries and Timor-Leste. The awards presentation ceremony is scheduled for October 2, 2015 at Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at Central World in Bangkok.

The Princess Maha Chakri Awards have been established in commemoration of the 60th birthday anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who will also preside over the presentation ceremony. Each recipient of the awards will receive a medal, a certificate of honor, and a cheque of 10,000 USD.-VNA
