Vietnam wins four medals at Int’l Biology Olympiad 2016

The 27th International Biology Olympiad (IBO 2016) was officially ended in Hanoi on July 23 after a competitive week with plentiful activities.

As the final result, Vietnamese delegation grabbed one gold medal, one silver medal and two bronze medals.

Particularly, the gold medal went to Vu Thi Chinh from Natural Science University's High School in Hanoi while the silver medal belonged to Le Thi Hong Hoa from Hanoi- Amsterdam High school.

Nguyen Ngoc Minh Hai, a student of Ha Long Special High school in Quang Ninh and Nguyen Dac Hieu from Lam Son Special High school in Thanh Hoa excellently earned two gold medals.

Total 26 gold, 51 silver and 74 bronze medals were presented for this year’s competition.

Three best contestants in IBO 2016 were two students from Singaporean delegation and a student from Chinese team. Vietnamese Hungary Luu Hoang Kim Ngan, a student of Hungarian team also excellently won a silver medal.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training granted the host country flag for the United Kingdom delegation.

The first IBO was organized in 1990. By 1996, Vietnam took part in the international scale competition.
Vietnam has four students participating in this year’s IBO.

Attending in the closing ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Chairman of IBO Coordinators Poonpipope Kasemsap, Deputy Chairman of International Biology Olympiad Poonpipope Kasemsap, Deputy Minister of Education and Training & Head of IBO2016 Steering Committee Nguyen Vinh Hien, Principal of Pedagogy University in Hanoi & Head of IBO 2016 Organizational Board Nguyen Van Minh, scientists, international professors, teachers and students from 71 countries and territories who participated in the biology competition.
