Vietnam bags Gold Medal from Int’l Math Olympiad

Vu Xuan Trung from high school for gifted students in the northern province of Thai Binh won gold medal at the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) in Hong Kong ( China), according to the Ministry of Education and Training.

IMO 2016 was held in Hong Kong (China) from July 6 to 16 with the participation of 602 students from 109 nations and territories . The ministry sent six students to the contest, and all of them have won top prizes with one gold, four silver and one bronze.

Twelve grader Vu Xuan Trung bagged the gold medal with the score of 31; twelve grader Dao Vu Quang High School Amsterdam for gifted students in Hanoi captured the silver medal with the score of 27.

11-grader Pham Nguyen Manh from from the school for gifted student under the HCM City National University, 12-grader Hoang Anh Dung from the school for gifted students in the northern province of Thanh Hoa and 12-grader Le Nhat Hoang from Senior High School Le Quy Don for gifted students in the central province of Binh Dinh won the silver medal with 26, 24, 24 marks respectively.

Students Vu Duc Tai from Senior High School Le Hong Phong in the northern province of Nam Dinh grasped the bronze medal with 19 marks.

The Vietnam team is ranked 11 amongst teams.

The IMO, a world mathematics competition for high school students, is held in a different country every year. The first IMO was held in 1959 in Romania, with seven countries participating.
