Tuition fee to increase from academic year 2015-2016

Vietnamese government has just issued a decree to increase tuition fee and exemption policies for special students in the academic year 2015-2016.

As per the decree, tuition fee for preschool and state schools is VND60,000(US$2.6) to VND300,000 (US$13.3) per month for each student in urban districts and is VND30,000 to VND120,000 a month for a student in countryside districts and VND8,000-VND60,000 a month for a student in mountainous districts.

From the academic year 2016-2017 on, tuition fee for state facilities and preschools will be adjusted following the average increased yearly consumer index announced by the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

The decree also mentioned tuition fee in state self-financed universities. For instance, tuition fee for society science, economy, law, agriculture, forestry and fisheries subjects will be VND1.75 million (US$77.8) a month for the academic year 2015-2016 and 2017-2018 but it will increase to VND1.85 million (US$82.3) and VND2.05 million (US$91.2) for later years.

Similarly, tuition fee for natural science, technology, sports, tourism will be from VND2.05 million to VND2.2 million and pharmaceutical medicine is VND4.4 million – VND5.05 million. While tuition fee in state-funded university facilities is VND610,000 for the academic years from 2015-2016 to 2020-2021.

For instance, students who study social science, economy, law, agriculture, forestry and fisheries subjects will pay tuition fee of VND610,000 for the academic year 2015-2016 but later tuition fee will be VND670,000; VND740,000 and VND980,000 for the academic year 2020-2021.
