Vietnamese children will have a chance to approach the first–ever robotics workshop in Viet Nam hosted by a Singaporean IT school and its partners in Ho Chi Minh City this December.

The Singapore-based IT Leisure and Education Co. and Education Unlimited Singapore (EUS) will cooperate with the Singapore International School in Ho Chi Minh City to organize a robotic workshop from Dec 18 to 22 in a bid to introduce the new discipline to local kids.

Young Vietnamese participants ranging in age from 7 to 16 will be exposed to various uses and types of robots, as well as the basics of assembling and controlling them using remote-controls.

According to Mr. Gregory Lye, the EUS General Director, robotics has been

gaining popularity worldwide as a tool to develop children’s minds, helping them to improve their analytical and creative thinking skills, skills which are vital in math and science classes.

"Many schools in Singapore and around the world are implementing robotics programs for young students. With a motto of "seeing is believing", the robotics workshop aims to give Vietnamese students insight into the fascinating world of robotics," he added.

In the World Robo Masters Cup 2006, an annual robotics competition in Singapore attracting 150 teams from around the world, Vietnamese student Nguyen Xuan Tung recently won the "Best Designer Award". "This proves that Vietnamese students are very creative and good candidates for learning robotics", said Mr. Lye.
