Sending his thank-you to Dr. Vo Ta Han’s book donation, HCMUT Deputy Principal Tran Thien Phuc shared that the school is striving to improve teaching and learning quality to provide high-skilled workers for not only local but also international market.
Accordingly, the donated books will help the school’s goal of improving training quality, said Mr. Phuc.
Deputy chairman of Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Vo Thanh Chat said Dr. Vo Ta Han, a financial expert who has worked in the US, Canada and Singapore, has brought more than one million precious books back to Vietnam for the goal of raising training quality in the city particularly and the country generally.
One touring Prentice – Hall Publishing House in Singapore, Dr. Han accidentally discovered a forgotten “mountain of books” laying across, he tried to persuade the publishing house to sell all books which were transported back to higher educational facilities in Vietnam later.
Realizing the lack of books especially science books, technology books, economics books, finance books, he started the program “Books4Vietnam” to collect books from overseas countries to bring back Vietnam with the aim to help undergraduate students to increase their knowledge for the country’s growth.
So far, he has brought one million books back to the country since 1988, said Dr. Han via video recorded in the US.
Sharing that he feels painful at seeing many Asian countries developing more than Vietnam though they had lagged behind Vietnam, he expected Vietnam will catch up with these countries and intellectuals especially professor and students should be volunteers in reading books.
He strongly believes if young people have chance to access to new knowledge and new technologies, the country will race up – which has driven him to send books back to Vietnam with the assistance of foreign and local partners .
