Near-poor students receive 70 percent support on health insurance

As per the inter-department of education and social insurance’s directive to schools in Ho Chi Minh City, the government will use the State budget to pay 70 percent of expenses on health insurance for near-poor families.

Students from near-poor background will receive support of 70 percent in buying health insurance if they buy in localities or they will receive refunds on contract they purchase in schools.
Health insurance for the academic year 2017-2018 is equal to 4.5 percent of basic salary applied from July 1, 2017 (or VND1.3 million a month). The government offers easy monthly payment options for students.
Students can purchase a set number of months and then simply renew pay health insurance; for instance, they can buy for three months, six months, 9 months, 12 months because it is sometimes hard to make a full payment up front.
In case, students’ insurance cards are expired in months in 2017 or they had not purchased insurance before, schools must make a list of them urging them to buy insurance until December 31, 2017 as per above-mentioned options.
