More 120 scholarships awarded to disadvantaged students

On the occasion of new academic year, the National Fund for Vietnamese Children in coordination with the People’s Committee in the northern province of Ha Giang September 8 awarded scholarships to needy students who excel in learning.

On the occasion of new academic year, the National Fund for Vietnamese Children in coordination with the People’s Committee in the northern province of Ha Giang September 8 awarded scholarships to needy students who excel in learning.

To honor students who have good achievements in the last academic year 2014-2015 and to encourage them to continue their learning, Vietnamese Vice President and Chairwoman of the National Fund for Vietnamese Children, Nguyen Thi Doan, directly gave 120 scholarships to students worth VND2 million (US$98) each.

The scholarship program for disadvantaged children  who overcome their harsh condition to excel in learning has been carried out since 1993 and it has so far provided over 35,000 scholarships to good students from low-income families, children of wounded soldiers and martyrs, children from ethnic minority groups in distant and disadvantaged districts.

For instance, “Cung em den truong” ( Going to school with student) scholarship program launched by Ms. Nguyen Thi Doan since 2012 aims to encourage disadvantaged students to go to schools, helping reducing the rate of dropouts. Till now, the program has awarded 8,700 children in 63 cities and provinces in the country worth totally VND25.9 billion (US$1,152,550)

In related news, on September 8, in Hanoi, Bao Viet Insurance Company and FPT University signed an agreement to launch a Math Competition in Violympic for the first to twelve graders in internet across the country. As per the agreement, in the academic year 2015- 2016, Bao Viet company will give VND1 billion (US$ 44,500) for the competition. 

At present, after 7 years, the competition has attracted 90 percent of junior and senior high school students in the country. Thanks to the competition, the love for Match in students has been inspired. Now the competition has had English edition. The Ministry of Education and Training has valued the competition is one of effective ways to encourage students to study Math, English and computing.
