The SOS Travelling Exhibition with the message “Say No to illegal wildlife products” has been operated in Tan Binh and Hoang Hoa Tham Junior High Schools in Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Binh District, aiming to educate children on wildlife product consumption and encourage them to take actions in wildlife protection.
Exhibition is an initiative of the Wildlife At Risk (WAR) in cooperate with the Department of Education and Training in Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Forest Protection.
Exhibition is designed a 60 meter square tent displaying numerous objects, games, practical facts and photos of wildlife and its threats.
It is scheduled that in the academic year 2014-2015, the SOS Exhibition will travel to approximately 20 secondary schools to attract about 20,000 students aged from 12 to 15 years old of Ho Chi Minh City.
Do Thi Thanh Huyen, Wildlife Education Manager at WAR, said that WAR will also organize special tours for about 500 children aged 12-15 years old to visit Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Station for free of charge. Biology teachers in HCMC and the Mekong delta province of Kien Giang’s Phu Quoc District have added wildlife protection content in teachings to the seventh graders.
In a related news, two actors Thanh Bui and Thu Minh have toured international school in HCMC to launch a contest, hoping to improve students’ awareness of protection of rhinoceros which is on the risk of extinction.
The contest is part of the World Rhino Day 2014 program, aiming to reduce rhinoceros horn consumption; change young people’s conception of using rhinoceros horns for improving health condition.
The first prize winner will be offered award-winning luxury safaris in Africa in five days. Winners will also take part in a seminar on rhino poaching in South Africa and save the rhino from extinction.
Contestants are free to express their creativeness and thoughts in an essay in English for people over 15 years old or poems and drawing under 15.
