Education Ministry to inspect foreign language teaching centers after scandal

After a clip of an argument between a teacher of MST English center and a student was posted in a social network,  Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Huu Do has signed a document on enhancing supervision on foreign language and IT teaching centers.

As the public paid much attention to the shutdown of the center in Hanoi   because it was operated without permission. The center was asked to close after Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen, who is teacher of the center, insulted a students. Tuyen was filmed engaging in an intense argument with one of the learners in the MST center, during which she used insulting word to the learner.

MST Education System JSC received an administrative fine of VND20 million ($880) for operating the center without permission from local authorities. Tuyen was also fined VND5 million ($220) for insulting others’ honor. She was asked not to teach anymore.

In its document, the Ministry requested to increase supervision to foreign language and IT teaching center; therefore, the departments and universities were assigned to review centers under their management. Related agencies have to check license, facilities and teaching staff quality in these centers to have timely punishment on teachers’ improper behaviors.
