Six Vietnamese students have received the Australian Prime Minister’s Asia Scholarship, granted by the Australian Ministry of Tertiary Education, Skills, Science and Research (MTSSR).

Six Vietnamese students have received the Australian Prime Minister’s Asia Scholarship, granted by the Australian Ministry of Tertiary Education, Skills, Science and Research (MTSSR).

On December 6, Chris Evans, Minister of Tertiary Education, Skills, Science and Research, presented 20 scholarships to Vietnamese students and their peers from other Asian countries at a ceremony held in the National Exhibition House in Canberra.

In his speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Hoang Vinh Thanh applauded the students, saying that the six recipients of the Australian PM scholarship showed talent, intelligence and passion for research.

The achievement is of greater significance in the context that Vietnam and Australia are preparing for the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2013, Thanh added.

Earlier, the Vietnamese scholarship winners had a chance to take photos and talk with Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard at the Parliament House. Mrs. Gillard said these scholarships will develop long-term education and research cooperation between Australia and Asian countries.
