Vietnamese film to compete at 91st Oscar Academy Awards

Vietnamese film, Co Ba Sai Gon (Miss Saigon or The Tailor) by directors Tran Buu Loc and Kay Nguyen will compete in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 91st Annual Oscar Academy Awards.

The film won the 2017 Golden Kite Awards for feature movie and the Best Costume award at the 58th Asia Pacific Film Festival. The 90-minute romantic comedy film produced by movie star, director and producer Ngo Thanh Van is about Vietnamese women living in Saigon (now HCM City) in the 1960s. The movie features the culture and lifestyle of Saigonese as well as the history of ao dai (traditional Vietnamese long dress).
The Tailor  will be screened in California on October 20.
The Academy Awards or The Oscars is an annual American awards ceremony honoring cinematic achievements in the film industry.
The awards was first presented in 1929, its ceremony was first televised in 1953. The Academy Awards ceremony is widely considered to be the most prestigious cinema awards ceremony in the world.
Another picture by producer Ngo Thanh Van, Song Lang, a drama about cai luong (reformed opera), a genre of traditional theatre in the South is nominated in the “Asian Future” at the 31st Tokyo International Film Festival which will take place on October 25-31.
The movie will also make its premiere at the Opening International Premiere in the festival.
The two films will participate in the 5th Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF) 2018 that is scheduled to take place from October 27-31.
