Vietnamese American singer’s movie screened at AWFF

The movie “Finding Julia” starring Vietnamese American singer Ha Phuong will be screened at the Asian World Film Festival – AWFF 2017 on October 28.

The feature film is also participated by movie stars Richard Chamberlain and Andrew McCarthy and directed by Igor Sunara.
Phuong plays a Eurasian acting student and her mother, a former star actress and singer in Vietnam. The movie is inspired by her struggles to overcome language and cultural barriers since moving to New York.
Beyond acting and co-writing the movie, she also wrote two songs for the soundtrack, and her HP Foundation is among AWFF’s sponsors. Phuong is also on the jury at the film fest.
Singer Ha Phuong is one of the three singing sisters in a musical family, including well-known pop stars Cam Ly and Minh Tuyet. She married to Chinh Chu, a well-known Vietnamese on Wall Street. He is a senior managing director of the Private Equity Group and his total assets are estimated at more than over US$1 billion.
The Asian World Film Festival (AWFF) is organized in Los Angeles from October 25-November 2. The annual event aims to bring the best of a broad selection of Asian World cinema to Los Angeles in order to draw greater recognition to the region's wealth of filmmakers, strengthening ties between the Asian and Hollywood film industries.
Over the past two years, 2015-2016, there have been 56 Oscar submissions from the Asian region for Best Foreign Language Film. The Asian World Film Festival has screened 38 of these films, one of which was nominated, 'Theeb' from Jordan and one shortlisted, 'Paradise' from Russia.
