Russian classical music presented at HCMC Opera House

A concert featuring classical music works by Russian composers Tchaikovsky and Shostakovic will be held at Ho Chi Minh City Opera House on January 9.

The performance will present to music lovers masterpieces, Piano concerto No.1 B-flat minor, op 23 and Symphony 5 in D minor op. 47.
The Piano concerto No.1 B-flat minor by Tchaikovsky was his first major success, dedicated to his mentor, Nikolai Rubinstein. Artist Hans von Bülow played the premiere in Boston in 1875. the concerto which is regarded as the sound of classical music will be performed by maestro Ho Thi The Van upon her return to Vietnam.
Shostakovich’s Symphony 5 in D minor, op. 47, was presented for the first time in November, 1937 and received an ovation that lasted over half an hour in the performance. Russian writer Alexei Tolstoy said that the symphony is looked like literary model of the Soviet Bildungsroman describing “the formation of a personality” or a Soviet personality. The piece will be performed by the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet and Symphony Orchestra with the participation of conductor Le Phi Phi.
