The Government has approved restoration of the My Son sanctuary, the Cham relic and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the central province of Quang Nam, by 2020.
The entire relic site and surrounding hills, including Van Chi, Hon Ngang, Da Beo, Ky Vi, and Mat Ma, will be renovated to preserve the structures and the landscapes from the elements.
The work will cost VND282 billion (US$16.5 million), which will come from the Government and donors.
It will be carried out in two phases, the first phase lasting from until 2012 and the second in 2013-20.
My Son is located 69 km southwest of Da Nang and was the religious center and capital of the ancient Champa Kingdom.
It is a large complex of religious monuments including temples and towers, many dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, built between the fourth and 12th centuries.
My Son was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999.
