Mozart's ‘The Magic Flute’ performed at city’s opera house

The opera ‘The Magic Flute’, one of three most famous works by Mozart, the greatest musical prodigy in history of world music, will be presented to music lovers at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House on June 30-July 1.

The art project with the supporting of the Norwegian Transposition Project is performed by artists of the HCMC Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO). It is directed by David Hermann and conducted by Tran Nhat Minh.

In 2014, The Magic Flute was performed in full length and in original language for the first time in Ho-Chi-Minh-City as a German-Vietnamese cooperation.

With its high artistic value and its musical and theatrical appeal, the opera has become one of the highlighted annual art events in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Magic Flute’ was premiered in Vienna and conducted by Mozart in 1791, telling a love story between Prince Tamino and Princess Pamina, good and evil, passion and will. Since its premiere, ‘The Magic Flute’ has always been one of the most beloved works in the operatic repertoire, and is presently the fourth most frequently performed opera worldwide.

Conductor Tran Nhat Minh graduated in conducting from the National Conservatory of Magnitogorsk, the National Tschaikowski-Conservatory in Moscow and the Academy of Conductors of Milan. He received the second prize at the International Competition of Young Conductors in Wladiwostok in 2003 and won the consolation prize of the contest for conductors of the Academic Choir of the Russian Federation at the Salavat City in 2006. Minh is choir leader and vice-head of opera at HCMC Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO). In 2009 he was awarded Best Conductor at the National Competition for Singing, Dancing and Music in Vietnam.

Franco-German opera director David Hermann studied stage direction at the University for Music ‘Hanns Eisler’ in Berlin. In 2000 he won the first prize in the International Competition for staging and stenography in Graz. Since then David Hermann has worked for numerous German opera houses in Berlin, Nürnberg, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt among others. He has directed several operas abroad, at the theatre of Luzern, the National Opera House of Amsterdam, in Nancy and at the Teatro Real in Madrid. He becomes the youngest director to date at the Salzburg Festival.
