The annual Vietnam - Japan Cultural Festival opened Saturday in Hoi An Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site in the central province of Quang Nam.
A series of cultural activities are taking place during the two-day event.
The opening ceremony was held on Saturday night at the heart of the ancient town, attracting lots of foreign visitors.
Mr. Le Van Giang, chairman of the Hoi An City People’s Committee, said at the opening ceremony that in the old days, the port town of Hoi An witnessed lots of cultural and trade ties between the locals and foreigners, including Japanese.
The festival includes an exhibition of photos of Hoi An and documentary photos on Vietnam - Japan cultural exchanges, and an artistic painting exhibition entitled “Colors of Heritage”.
There will be a seminar on cultural heritage preservation and tourism development, an introduction of Japanese cuisine and performances of Japanese musical instruments and children’s games.
The event, co-organized by the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam, the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Hoi An People’s Committee, offers a chance for artists in particular and the people of the two countries in general to exchange and share their own special cultural characteristics.
