More than 2,300 Japanese traditional Kimekomi dolls are on the display until November 9 at the HCMC Exhibition Center at 92 Le Thanh Ton Street, District 1. Seventy of the Kimekomi dolls have been adorned in Vietnamese traditional outfits.

Visitors will have a chance to dress up in Japan’s traditional woman’s outfit, the kimono, and pose for photos or learn from Japanese crafts masters how to make Kimekomi dolls.

The origins of Kimekomi doll, which officially became a “Japanese Traditional Product” in 1978, date back to the early 18th century. Japanese believe the dolls, made from such materials as wood, paper and fabric, can attain magical powers to dispel diseases and misfortune or bring back good luck and happiness to their owners.

The event is co-organized by the Viet Nam - Japan Friendship Association, the Japan Kimekomi Doll Association and the Japanese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
