The People’s Committee of Hanoi has asked the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to coordinate with relevant agencies to restore the ancient Tram Gian Pagoda in Chuong My District by retaining its original ancient architectural structure.

Authorities in Hanoi suspended the restoration work at the pagoda, as it was destroying its ancient original structure and not abiding by rules of the national cultural heritage law.

Individuals and organizations that were restoring the Tram Gian Pagoda had no value or knowledge of history and were not following cultural heritage laws, such as use of appropriate construction material.

The more than 1,000 years old Tram Gian Pagoda is located in Tien Lu Village, 20km southwest from central Hanoi. Built in 1185, during the reign of King Ly Cao Tong, it is also known as Quang Nghiem, Tien Lu or Nui.

Each year, the Tram Gian Pagoda festival opens on the 4th day of the first lunar month and attracts thousands of pilgrims.
