A festival was held at the Dong Da Park in Ha Noi on February 4 to mark the 225th anniversary of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory led by national hero Nguyen Hue over Qing invaders.
In the early spring of 1789, Nguyen Hue, who was later proclaimed Emperor Quang Trung, led his guerrillas from Hue imperial palace to Hanoi, which was then occupied by the Chinese Qing army.
He launched a surprise attack and defeated more than 20,000 Qing soldiers during a battle on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year.
The victory of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da went down into the nation’s history as an immortal epic of the struggle for national construction and defence.
The festival included incense offering ceremony, palanquin procession and a range of artistic performances in memory of King Quang Trung-Nguyen Hue and Tay Son soldiers.
The event aims to uphold the country’s cultural values while educating patriotic and combat traditions to young generations.
