The statue placed on a 1.8m tall pedestal and is 5.4m high and weighs about 20 tons.

Sculptor Lam Quang Noi and his assistants of the Phuong Nam bronze casting company took 8 months to complete the statue depicted President Ho Chi Minh shaking hand with Mr. Ton Duc Thang when he was assigned as Vice State President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam by the National Assembly in 1960.

It represents the Vietnamese people’s great respect for Uncle Ho and Uncle Ton and is a symbol of the country’s unification.

The work is a gift of the Communist Party Unit and people of Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.

In addition,  a groundbreaking ceremony of a monument of  President Ho Chi Minh and the Central Highland ethnic minority people was held at the Dai doan ket (Great Unity) Square in Gia Lai Provinces Pleiku City on the same day.

The monument includes a 10.8m tall bronze statue of President Ho Chi Minh placed on a 4.5m high pedestal and a stone relief measured 58m long and 11m high in the shape of lotus petals.

The relief is carved with images depicting daily activities, the culture and history of ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands.

The statue marks the province’s 14th Party Congress and the capital’s millennium birthday.
