Hanoi hosts the 5th Vietnam Book Day

The 5th Vietnam Book Day kicked off at Thong Nhat Park in Hanoi on April 18.

Attending at the opening ceremony were Politburo member and Head of the Party CentralCommittee's Commission for Communications and Education Vo Van Thuong and leaders of the Ministry of Information and Communications and publishing houses.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan affirmed that book plays an important role in human education and development.
The book show presents 50,000 book titles in various genres such as literature, policy, history, science, society and more; and stationeries by around 80 publishing houses nationwide.
Many activities will be held during the event, including the introduction of writers, seminars and exchanges between readers and writers, as well as forums on books and political and cultural events.
Launched in 2014, the annual book show is to encourage and promote reading habit in the community and raise awareness of using books as a tool for critical thinking. It also celebrates appreciation for readers, writers, publishers, distributors, and other affiliates of the publishing industry.
The event will run until April 22.
