“Hanoi Duo” makes its debut in Hanoi & HCMC

Vietnamese French musician Nguyen Le, who has become quite popular in the music world, has returned home for a performances in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The concert with the participation of musician Ngo Hong Quang, percussionist Alex Tran, flutists Nguyen Hoang Anh and Nguyen Duc Minh, Dan tranh (sixteen-stringed zither) player Nguyen Mai Le and singer My Linh will take place at the French Cultural Exchange Center, L'Espace, in Hanoi on February 24-25.

The event then will be organized at the Institute of Culture Exchange with France (Idecaf) in Ho Chi Minh City on March 1.

Nguyen Le will present his new album “Hanoi Duo” with another exceptional musician – Ngo Hong Quang, an album that is inspired by Vietnamese contemporary music: colorful with multiple styles, upbeat, sensitive and very intelligent.

As an internationally acclaimed Jazz guitarist and a recipient of the Django Reinhardt Prize, Nguyen Le breathes new life into the common definition of “fusion” by combining jazz with world music
He was born in 1959 in France. His father is historian Le Thanh Khoi. Le can play various instruments and different kinds of music such as rock and funk.

The jazz musician  established the Ultramarine band whose album “Dé” was selected as the best world music CD of 1989 by the French Liberation newspaper.

Nguyen Le was invited to take part in the French National Jazz Orchestra under the baton of conductor and music director Antoine Hervé in September 1987.

The musician has worked together with many world famous artists and is one of the big names who have outstanding contributions to French contemporary music.

His 1996 album Tales from Viêt-Nam blending jazz and traditional Vietnamese music won numerous international awards such as Diapason d’Or, Choc du Monde de la Musique, Choc de I’année Jazzman and Jazzthing.
