The relic complex is located on the edge of Hai Van mountain pass  on Highway 1 at the geographical boundary between Thua Thien-Hue Province and Danang City.  It is the highest and the most beautiful pass in Vietnam.

Located 490m above sea level, the complex of brick-built gates was built under the Tran Dynasty then restored in 1826 under the rule of the Nguyen dynasty’s King Minh Mang (1791-1841).

Hai Van Pass was the gate protecting the ancient imperial capital of Hue under the Nguyen dynasty (1802-1945). The structures included fortifications, store houses and cannon forts.

The architecture is also named “Thien ha de nhat hung quan” (the world’s most marvelous wonder),  a popular tourist attraction for travel lovers.
