First ‘Ngo’ Boat Race Festival ends in Soc Trang Province

The first ‘Ngo’ Boat Race Festival of the Khmer ethnic minority community ended on night of November 17 in Soc Trang Province.

About 6,200 athletes, thousands of actors from the Mekong Delta Provinces and 500,000 people, including 11,000 foreigners, participated in the event.

At the closing ceremony prizes were distributed and the first prize went to the team from Tra Vinh Province in the male category, while the second and third prize went to the team from Soc Trang Province.

In the female category, the team from Bac Lieu Province won the first prize, Vinh Long Province won the second prize and Hau Giang Province won the third prize.

Vo Thanh Quang, Director of Information and Communication in Soc Trang Province, said that the festival proved to be an advantageous opportunity to strengthen ties between the Kinh ethnic group and the Hoa and Khmer ethnic group.
