A statue of Doctor Alexandre Yersin, who discovered Da Lat in 1893, has just been placed at the park named after him on the bank of Xuan Huong Lake.
Sculptor Pham Van Hang created the 25-ton statue from a 40-ton granite block which was bought in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province last year. It is nearly 2.5m high, 3.3m wide and 2m thick.
The sculptor carved Doctor Yersin’s signature on the statue and his famous words on the statue back.
This is the nicest work among four statues of Doctor Yersin during 20 years of creation of sculptor Pham Van Hang.
The late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet called for raising fund to support the project at a cost of VND100 million
The work will mark 115th anniversary of Da Lat City to be held in December.
