City Launches Design Contest for the 2010 Lunar New Year Flower Festival

A design contest for the HCMC 2010 Lunar New Year Flower Festival open to local enterprises, architects, painters, students of universities of fine arts and architects has just been launched by the organization committee.

The competition themed “35 Years of Building and Developing the City” will be related to events such as the 80th Anniversary of the Founding of the Viet Nam Communist Part, President Ho Chi Minh’s 120th birthday and the 30th anniversary of the Lunar New Year Flower Festival organized in Tao Dan Park.

All submissions must meet the following eligibility criteria: Display booths have to be arranged logically on an area of around 8 hectares; Paths in the festival precinct and entrances to the festival be properly planned to avoid traffic jams.

The organization board will receive entries on October 17. The first winner will get a cash prize of VND50 million. The second prize is VND30 million and VND 15 million for the third prize. The annual festival is a traditional, cultural activity in Ho Chi Minh City and is held for the occasion of the Lunar New Year and aims to create an attractive place for travelers to the city.

The Festival attracts various people and has in the past displayed more than 5,000-6,000 valuable and rare items including ancient ornamental plants, bonsais, rock-gardens, dried tree, grafting stones, cacti, ornamental fish and various valuable and rare flowers from throughout the country.
