On the day, many activities took place in the island to celebrate the first Culture Tourism Week on the island, including entitled Ly Son - Di San Van Hoa Bien Dao (Ly Son - Islands and Sea Culture Heritage) and the event to make human flag.
The exhibition will display photos of daily life and beautiful landscapes in Ly Son Island, as well as maps and documents on Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands. The maps and the documents are seen as historical and legal evidence proving Vietnamese sovereignty over the two archipelagos.
The participants in making Vietnam’s flag were in red shirts with yellow flag printed to make 45 meter long and 25 meter wide flag.
Ly Son Island is located in the north-east of Quang Ngai Province, about 15 nautical miles (27km) from mainland. The 10 square kilometer island includes An Hai, An Vinh and An Binh communes. In the Nguyen dynasty, 15 local men in An Hai, Sa Ky, Binh Son and Son Tinh patroled the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly).
Annually, islanders still preserved the annual Hoang Sa festival which is held to pay tributes to local men who enlisted in the Hoang Sa Flotilla for hundreds of years.
Additionally, thousands of travelers took part in Phuot Fest Hang Cau beach with collection of plastic bottles and picture exhibition.
