2019 Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival opens

The Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival 2019 themed ‘HCM City’s Charming Ao Dai” opened in Nguyen Hue walking street in Ho Chi Minh City on March 2.

Attending at the event were Deputy Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee Vo Thi Dung, former Chairwoman of the municipal People's Council Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, Vice Standing Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Le Thanh Liem, Deputy Director General of Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) Ngo Hoai Chung.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, Vice Standing Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Le Thanh Liem affirmed that HCMC Ao Dai Festival has become an annual event and also a cultural tourism product typically attract a large number of visitors.
He highly appreciated the event has contributed in preserving and promoting Vietnamese traditional dress as well as spreading pride and love on Ao Dai.
The 6th edition offers a wide range of cultural activities, including Ao Dai fashion show presenting a collection of Vietnamese traditional dresses in the past and present of the Ao Dai Museum in Thuan Kieu Square in district 5 on March 6; Ao Dai design contest in March 9-10 at Ho Chi Minh City's General Sciences Library; an Ao Dai display at the Ao Dai Exhibition in district 1 and Ao Dai Museum in district 9 from March 1- April 30; a workshop of Ao Dai and the traditional Japanese craft of 'Tsumami Zaiku', the folding of fabric into flower shapes; a seminar on traditional materials used to make Ao Dai and among.
In addition, latest collections of Ao dai designs by 26 local and foreign designers and tailors and fabric shops are displayed.
Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 H’Hen Nie has been chosen as the ambassador of the Ao Dai festival 2019 set to take place on March 2-17 in Ho Chi Minh City.
Ao Dai Festival aims to honor the culture of traditional Vietnamese dresses during different periods of time and introduce the beauty of Ao Dai to foreign visitors; preserving and developing the unique quintessence of the Vietnamese culture.
The local authorities also encourages state women workers of people’s committees of districts, state offices, schools and universities throughout the city to wear Ao dai during March.
