2016 Hanoi International Film Festival opens

The 4th Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF) opened at the Vietnam-Soviet Cultural Friendship Palace in Hanoi on November 1.

Attending the event were Deputy Prime Miniter Vu Duc Dam, Minister of the Culture, Sport and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien and large number of local and international artists.

This year’s event themed “Cinema - Integration and Sustainable Development,” attracts 146 international features and shorts from 43 countries and territories worldwide.

Reputed international jury members are South Korean film director Jo Sung-Hee who directed the box office hit A Werewolf Boy (2012); Maike Mia Höhne, curator of the Berlinale Shorts section at Berlin International Film Festival, Japanese-American  film and television director Michael Toshiyuki Uno.

The jury members of the feature-length films consists of French director Régis Wargnie who directed film “Indochine” in 1992 won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 65th Academy Awards; People’s Artists Dao Ba Son.

The jury members of the short films are Australian director Maxine Williamson, People’s Artists Nguyen Thi Phuong Hoa and Singaporean film critic Philip Cheah.

“Vietnam landscapes in foreign movies” exhibition, Film Project Market and  HANIFF Campus, three events of the activities of the festival, took place on the opening day with the participation of Director of Cinema Department Dr.Ngo Phuong Lan and Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Vuong Duy Bien.

There will have also a series of activities, Competitions; Panorama: Presenting Renowned Films of the World; Country in Focus: Indian Cinema; Selection of ASEAN Films; Selection of Italian Films; Selection of Films From Member Countries of TPP (Trans Pacific Partnership); Selection of Contemporary Vietnamese Films; Film Market; and Seminars on cooperation of production of films that will be held during the film fest.

The event lasts until November 5.
