Viettel brand worth more than US$3.1 billion

Viettel was the most valuable brand in Vietnam in 2018, according to the newly-released list of Vietnam’s 50 largest brands by the UK's brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance.
Viettel continued to be the most valuable brand with a value of more than US$3.17 billion, up 23.7 percent compared to the previous year, which equals to the total value of the second and third brands in the list. In the list of 300 most valuable telecommunications brands in the world in 2018, Viettel ranked 47, up one notch, approximating other telecom providers like Singaporean telecom giant Singtel and Middle East’s largest telecom brand Ooredoo.
2018 was an important year of Viettel in launching three new industries, consisting of electrical communication, network security and high technology.
The military-run telecommunications company also renamed to Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group and announced that it would move into its fourth development stage with a goal of globalization and leading in the fourth industrial revolution. 2018 was also a successful year for Viettel in expanding investment in Asia.
Mytel, Viettel’s brand in Myanmar, had nearly five million subscribers within six months after its inauguration, accounting for more than 10 percent of market share here. Mytel has made Myanmar the fastest growing market in the history of the company and was a phenomenon in growth of international telecommunications industry.
Viettel has also applied the Industry 4.0 technology on its products and services, such as blockchain technology solution for medical file management, AI for license plate recognition and face recognition systems, AI for virtual assistant products and Chatbot. This has showed effectiveness and gradually realized development strategy of the company in new development stage. The company also announced that it would invest heavily in research and manufacturing 5G equipment and plan to pilot 5G services in 2019. In August last year, General Department of Taxation under the Ministry of Finance listed Viettel as the biggest tax payer in Vietnam.
