Vietnam reports US$177 million trade deficit in May

The country shipped US$ 4.37 billion worth of products to foreign countries (up 0.1 percent) while imports ballooned to US$ 14.55 billion (up 3.4 percent) in the month.

During the first five months of this year, Vietnam’s foreign trade totaled US$ 133.25 billion, a year-on-year increase of 2.2 percent. The national balance of trade saw a surplus of US$ 1.64 billion with export turnover at US$ 67.44 billion and import value at US$ 65.8 billion.

Foreign-invested enterprises posted US$ 8.34 billion in trade surplus while domestic businesses ran a trade deficit of nearly US$ 6.7 billion.
