Two Vung Tau firms found breaking environment law

Inspectors from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment have found two seafood processing firms in Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province violating the environment law.

They found Tien Dat surreptitiously discharging all its effluents, untreated, through an underground pipe into the Tre Channel.

Hai Viet Co. releases its untreated waste into the storm drainage system of the industrial zone where it is situated.

The ministry has yet to announce what penalty it will slap on the offending firms.

In related news, Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment has fined My Thinh Company VND29 million (US$1,750) for discharging toxic fumes and liquids exceeding permitted levels along with its waste.

It also suspended the manufacturing processes that caused the pollutants until the company’s waste treatment come up to scratch.
