Nearly one week after the petrol price hike of VND2,000 per litre, some taxi firms like Mai Linh, Vinasun and Taxi Group have already announced they will raise taxi fares by VND1,000 per kilometre.

Ta Long Hy, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Taxi Association, confirmed this information yesterday, April 2.

Hy added that these were the first three taxi firms to come forward for approval of a fare increase from the Ho Chi Minh City Taxi Association, after the petrol price hike on March 29.

He said that with the second price increase of VND2, 000 per litre after March 29, taxi firms are unable to suffer further losses and must now share the cost burden with customers.

Earlier, taxi firms in the city had increased fares by VND1, 500 per kilometre since March 1.

Taxi fares are not under State management scheme, therefore when taxi companies want to adjust their fare rates; they are simply required to submit a notice of their new fare rates to local financial departments.
