VN-Index mounts on optimism

The gauge of 305 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange leaped forward 1.42 per cent, or 6.52 points, to close at 465.26 points, with 185 gainers, 68 losers, and 57 stocks remaining unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse improved by 7 per cent in volume, and 12.7 per cent in value over the previous trading session as 106.53 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.76 trillion.

Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB) was the most active share in volume with 10.22 million shares changing hands.

Sacombank Securities Joint Stock Company (SBS) was the second most active share with 4.5 million shares.

Vietnam Commercial Joint Stock Export Import Bank (EIB) came next with 4.07 million shares traded.

Big winners on the city bourse today included Binh Dinh Minerals Joint Stock Company (BMC), Dat Xanh Real Estate Service & Construction Corporation (DXG), COMA 18 Joint Stock Company (CIG), and Gia Lai Sugar - Thermal Power Joint Stock Company (SEC).

Southern Seed Corporation (SSC) declined for three consecutive trading sessions, receding 4.97 per cent to close at VND34,400.

Traphaco Joint Stock Company (TRA) waned 4.96 per cent to close at VND57,500.

Truong Long Auto & Technology Joint Stock Company (HTL) clipped 4.82 per cent to close at VND7,900.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – jumped 9.65 points, or 1.83 per cent, to end at 537.28. Among its 30 members, 22 stocks advanced, 5 retreated and 3 remained unmoved.

Meanwhile, Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north strengthened 1.33 per cent, or 1.03 points, to close at 78.54 points, with 191 winners, 98 losers, and 53 stocks treading water. More than 121.76 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.18 trillion, the highest level since the end of March.

The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares reversed 0.51 per cent, or 0.18 points, to close at 34.89 points. A total of 374,550 shares changed hands at VND2.95 billion.
