Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index retreated the sixth consecutive trading session on October 5 as investors sold off large-cap stocks.

The gauge of 297 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange slid 0.23 percent, or 0.97 points, to close at 417.21 points.

Among the benchmark members, there were 135 winners, 81 losers, while 86 stocks remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse improved by 34 percent in volume and 43 percent in value over the previous day as 34 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND596 billion.

Becamex Infrastructure Development Joint Stock Company (IJC) led the list of most active shares by volume with 5.63 million shares changing hands.

Binh Duong Trade and Development Joint Stock Company (TDC) followed with 2.11 million shares.

Tan Tao Investment & Technology Joint Stock Company (ITA) came next with 1.68 million shares traded.

Construction Joint Stock Company No.5 (SC5) sank for five straight trading sessions, nose-diving 18.63 percent to close at VND13,100.

De Tam Joint Stock Company (DTA) dropped 5 percent to close at VND5,700.

Cuu Long Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Corporation (DCL) shattered 4.94 percent to VND15,400.

Basa Joint Stock Company (BAS) revived 5.56 percent to close at VND1,900.

Ba Ria Thermal Power Joint Stock Company (BTP), and Do Thanh Technology Corporation (DTT) both rebounded 5 percent to VND4,200, and VND6,300 respectively.

Hung Vuong Joint Stock Corporation (HVG) surged 4.98 percent to VND21,100.

Meanwhile, the Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north edged down 0.17 percent, or 0.12 points, to finish at 70.34 points. Around 33.12 million shares changed hands at a value of VND340.4 billion.

The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares collapsed 1.13 percent, or 0.35 points, to 30.59 points at 2:20 pm local time with a total of 175,500 shares changed hands at a value of VND1.26 billion.
